A Drunker stabs man to death in Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State, on Monday, arraigned a 27-year old drunk, Rashidi Sikiru, over his alleged murder of one Akeem Jimoh

The accused is standing trial on a charge of murder before an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Maria Dauda, told the court that the accused, while drunk, allegedly stabbed Jimoh on his neck with a broken bottle, which led to Jimoh’s death.
Dauda alleged that the accused committed the offence on April 20, at about 10.00 a.m., at Orisa Junction, Imude, in Ajangbadi, a suburb of Lagos.
She said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Miss K.O. Ariyo, refused to take the plea of the accused on the ground that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case.
Ariyo, however, ordered the police to continue with its investigation into the matter.
